Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, starring Marisa Abela. 2 hours 24 minutes, PG15.
Powerful dramatization of the life of the phenomenally talented Amy Winehouse, who died at 27 after releasing the two albums which made her a legend in her own time. NME described it as “impressively deft and delicate” while The Wall Street Journal called it “detailed, vivid, enthralling – the performances are top-notch”. Abela recreates Winehouse’s extraordinary vocal talent, and the dramatization shows us something of the personal tragedies and difficulties which made her such a remarkable figure. A fitting homage.
