Entertaining and touching, this film is directed by newcomer Charlotte Regan who turns in “an amazing debut” and the two stars are “real… authentic and surprising” (Roger Ebert).

12-year-old-Georgie shares a flat with her single mother – until her mother dies. Then she decides to go it alone, staying on in the flat and parenting herself. A resilient and enterprising child, she makes an income from bike theft, pulls the wool over the eyes of Social Services, and gets by with the help of her best friend – until her father unexpectedly turns up. Jason is the last thing Georgie wants – she’s been doing fine on her own – and he’s not that far off being a kid himself. Will they ever build a relationship?
