The Guardian 4 Star**** “a deliciously sweary poison-pen mystery”
Based on a true story of a 1920s English seaside town, this film follows two neighbours: straightlaced and moralistic Edith (Colman) and rowdy, rule breaking Rose (Buckley). Residents of the town have started to receive some shocking poison pen letters – full of swearing but unintentionally funny (a choice example is “foxy-assed rabbit-f***r”). Rose is charged with the crime and goes to trial – but the women of the town suspect that the truth lies elsewhere. Can Police Officer Gladys solve the mystery before it’s too late? Suspenseful comedy ensues, supported by the stellar cast and a great script.
